The International Dance Festival of Ouagadougou (FIDO), in Burkina Faso, will hold its 14th edition from 24 to 31 January 2026 on the theme of “Sharing”. This emblematic event highlights the African and international choreographic diversity, with companies coming from many countries in Africa and Europe. Created in 2013 by the Burkinabe choreographer Irène Tassembédo, FIDO celebrates all forms of dance expression, from heritage traditions to contemporary creations.
Origins of FIDO
Irène Tassembédo, a major figure in contemporary African choreography, founded the festival in 2013 to create a unique space for cultural encounters and blends. From its first edition, it brings together 25 companies from three continents (Africa, Europe, Americas), attracting nearly 3,000 spectators. The following editions, such as those of 2014 and 2015, confirm its essential status with 4000 to 5000 spectators, promoting dance as a vector of cultural and tourist development in Burkina Faso.
Program of the 2026 edition
The 14th edition, placed under the theme “Sharing”, reinforces the vocation of FIDO as a place of transmission, learning and exchanges. On the program: dance workshops led by professionals (9am-12pm), discovery platters (7pm-8pm), main shows (8pm-10pm) and musical afternoons (10pm-midnight). More than 150 companies have been invited over the 13 previous editions, with an accessible program including free outdoor shows and artistic encounters.
