Hello Yasmeg, you have an original artist name, can you introduce yourself to our audience and tell us about your musical background ?
Hello, Yasmec Neg, my real name is Germain Ndongo Ebengué, I am from Mbam and Kim (Cameroon), born in Ntui where I completed all my elementary and secondary school studies. I have a degree in Physical Geography and I live in Yaoundé. My artist name Yasmec Neg is composed of two (02) words that each has a meaning: Yasmec means “the stale guy”. That is to say a guy who, despite all the attempts at transformation, remains the same. And “NEG” is short for my full name Ndongo Ebengué Germain.
Member and percussionist in the choir of my parish, I really start to develop this passion for music on the benches of the high school where I compose my very first title: “AWOUTÉ ATANIA” with the instrumental of “do me” by P. SQUARE.
I present this title at the high school fair and I realize from then on that I have a gift for easily composing songs. Unfortunately, the framework and the studies will not allow me to hold on to my passion. I am therefore taking a break until obtaining my license.
Unemployed in the capital Yaoundé, why wouldn’t I reconnect with my passion that previously had dazzled some fans? I then decide to record my title ‘AWOUTÉ ATANIA’ in a studio. From then on, I was listened to through the Department of Mbam and Kim, then solicited by a couple to compose a title for their wedding. This title «IDING» then becomes an anthem in the Department (Mbam and Kim). This will be followed by tours, the largest of which will take place during the legislative and municipal election campaign of 2020, where I go around the villages with the title ‘OUSSI EDONGO’.
Today I total nine (09) tracks including a clip. I owe the production of these works of art to my own efforts and to some hearts that believe in me and encourage me from time to time
You draw the essence of your inspiration from Culture. Is it a path for the future ?
Culture is the reflection of a community’s identity. It is the very richness of this one. It would be difficult, if not impossible, to get out of isolation if culture is not promoted. Every society is identified through its culture which is a major indicator of the mindset and even the level of development of said society. That is why I think that investing in cultural projects is a path that guarantees sustainable development.
Your dearest wish ?
My dearest wish is to never give up my passion and to find a better framework to reveal the entirety of my talent to the world. My dream is to become an international cultural ambassador: an “interplanetary artist”.
A last word ?
I believe in myself, in efforts and in work. Thank you to all those who appreciate my achievements and simply exalt the culture. As a reminder, I use TUKI, French and English in my songs, with a dominant folk style. Thank you
It’s us who thank you.
