Muganga – The Healer

Muganga – The Healer

The film “Muganga – He who cares” is a poignant fiction directed by Marie-Hélène Roux, inspired by the commitment of Congolese doctor Denis Mukwege, future Nobel Peace Prize laureate. It tells the story of this courageous doctor who, at the risk of his life, treats thousands of women victims of sexual violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo, in the tragic context of the war related to the exploitation of coltan. The film is inspired in particular by the testimony ‘Panzi’ co-written by Denis Mukwege and the Belgian surgeon Guy-Bernard Cadière.

Isaach de Bankolé embodies Dr. Mukwege, while Vincent Macaigne plays the role of the Belgian surgeon Guy Cadière. Manon Bresch, Babetida Sadjo and Déborah Lukumuena are also part of the cast. The film highlights the meeting and the work of these two men carried by the strength of the women they care for, with the aim of raising awareness among a wide audience about this tragedy often overlooked despite multiple international reports.

“Muganga” is a committed work that denounces sexual violence in the DRC and pays tribute to the humanitarian fight of Denis Mukwege, recognized worldwide for his heroic work with survivors. Release on September 24, 2025
